Dubai is extending its lead in contactless border technology: NEC Corporation and emaratech on 19 December announced the deployment of six biometric smart gates dedicated to flydubai air-crew immigration clearance.
Installed inside the airline’s Airport Operations Centre, the NeoFace Express X5 “facepods” authenticate crew passports and facial data in two seconds and push clearance records directly into the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs & Port Security (ICP) system. The closed-loop set-up allows rostered pilots and cabin crew to bypass manual desks, trimming up to 15 minutes per turnaround cycle.

For airlines, the project is a proof-of-concept showing that segregated e-gates can ease congestion at busy hubs without compromising security. It also gives immigration officers a live dashboard of which crew have entered the country—useful for duty-time audits and overstays.
From a corporate-mobility perspective, the roll-out signals that biometric corridors will increasingly extend beyond passengers to cover logistics staff, offshore rig teams and cruise-ship crews who move repeatedly through the UAE. Vendors advise multinational employers to begin mapping data-privacy and consent frameworks now so employees can opt-in smoothly when similar gates open to wider user groups.
