Cross-border commuters in the Greater Bay Area will gain faster passage next week after the Zhuhai Border Inspection Station confirmed an expansion of the “three-door” co-operative fast channel at the Hong Kong–Zhuhai–Macau Bridge (HZMB) highway port.
Effective 26 January, three additional traveller categories may use the biometric self-service lane:
1. Foreigners holding a passport plus a PRC permanent-residence card.
2. Foreigners with an e-passport and a mainland residence permit valid for at least six months.
3. Foreign-passport Macau residents who also hold a multi-entry PRC visa valid six months or longer.

Applicants must complete a one-time biometric enrolment—either nationwide for categories 1–2 or specifically at HZMB/ Hengqin for category 3—after which their records are shared across the national border-inspection database.
The fast channel, launched in 2018 for qualified Mainland, Hong Kong and Macau residents, has become one of the region’s busiest corridors: Zhuhai immigration processed 31.34 million crossings in 2025, including 569,000 foreign travellers. Officials expect the enlarged eligibility list to shave average clearance times by up to 40 percent during the upcoming Lunar New Year peak and to reinforce the bridge’s role as a hub for multinational executives shuttling between Guangdong factories and Macau client meetings.
Companies should advise eligible assignees to complete enrolment early and remind them that standard customs declarations still apply when carrying commercial samples or professional equipment.
