Data aggregated from Italian and Slovenian border-police sensors are refreshed every 15 minutes and show average delays of 5–10 minutes at the busiest points – Tarvisio/Šentilj on the A23–A2 motorway and Fernetti/Sesana on the A4. The tool is timely: holiday traffic from Germany and Austria traditionally peaks in late June, and Italy’s decision last month to extend temporary Schengen-area border checks with Slovenia until December has raised fears of tailbacks. For now, however, enhanced staffing appears to be keeping cars moving. Business travellers transiting by road between Trieste’s port, Ljubljana’s tech cluster and northern Italian factories can use the colour-coded map to pick the quickest crossing and receive SMS alerts when queues exceed preset thresholds. Logistics operators running just-in-time deliveries to automotive plants in Styria and Veneto also stand to benefit, as even short hold-ups can trigger penalty clauses. The platform’s Italian developer says a mobile-app version with geofenced push notifications will launch in July, and talks are under way to integrate customs-lane data once the EU’s new Entry/Exit System for third-country nationals becomes fully operational in 2027.
