Zurich-based reinsurer Swiss Re used its inaugural “Schweizer Resilienz-Tag” on 26 June to warn that heat has become a “risk multiplier” threatening transport, energy and health systems. Presenting its sigma study “Warming Switzerland”, the Swiss Re Institute noted that hot days have tripled since 1990 and that prolonged heat can distort rail tracks, soften runways and raise accident rates on Alpine roads. The event gathered cantonal planners, SBB infrastructure chiefs and airport operators to discuss practical adaptation—ranging from reflective rail coatings tested on the Gotthard corridor to retrofitting trolleybus depots with rooftop cooling. Mobility specialists highlighted the need to revise work-rest norms for construction crews on cross-border projects, as overheating workers were blamed for a 12 % productivity loss during the 2025 heatwave. Swiss Re urged insurers and corporates to expand parametric cover for weather-related delays, citing a CHF 320 million loss from the Blatten rock-ice avalanche last year that closed the Grimsel Pass for weeks. Asset-intensive sectors such as logistics and aviation were encouraged to price climate risk into long-term investment models. While not a regulatory forum, the conference’s findings will feed into the Federal Council’s forthcoming climate-adaptation strategy, due by December. Employers with internationally mobile staff should monitor the policy debate, as stricter heat-safety standards could translate into mandatory travel or work-hour adjustments for expatriates and frequent travellers.
