During the April skirmishes, several Gulf carriers temporarily re-routed over Cypriot airspace, causing minor congestion at Nicosia FIR’s upper levels. For multinationals with UK staff on assignment in Cyprus, the update is a timely reminder to test emergency communications trees, verify that dependants are registered with consular services and reconfirm med-evac coverage. Travel managers should also note that many insurers make FCDO advisories a trigger for policy exclusions; proactive evidence of risk-mitigation steps can preserve coverage if the advisory escalates. The FCDO said it continues to liaise with Cypriot authorities and will issue SMS alerts if flight routes are disrupted.
