The cancellations stem from a mosaic of factors: airlines’ individual risk thresholds, crew-pairing rules affected by extended block times around no-fly zones, and aircraft availability after earlier diversions. Emirates, for example, reversed an earlier blanket suspension but still needed extra time to re-position wide-bodies and restore crew rosters. The result is a two-speed gateway system in which leisure-heavy Paphos has become the preferred entry point for last-minute travellers, while Larnaca—Cyprus’ primary business hub—faces rolling gaps in its timetable. Supply-chain managers with cargo booked on passenger flights should expect knock-on delays. Freight forwarders report that hold-space ex-Larnaca remains over-subscribed, pushing urgent shipments onto trucking routes to Athens or onto freighters via Istanbul. For mobile employees, experts recommend a “48-hour confirmation rule”: do not commit to meetings on the island unless the inbound flight is firm inside two days of departure. Hermes Airports says it is working airline-by-airline to rebuild resilience but concedes that “full normalisation” could take another week. Travellers are urged to monitor arrival/departure boards and build contingency time—particularly when connecting to onward ferries or regional charters.
