Dubai’s General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs (GDRFA) has celebrated the first anniversary of its ‘Red Carpet’ smart corridor at Terminal 3 by revealing new performance data: the biometric lane can clear ten passengers simultaneously in as little as four seconds and no more than 14. The system—developed with local tech firm emaratech and powered by Paravision’s facial-recognition engine—works without passports or boarding passes, verifying identities against a pre-enrolled biometric token. While the product was initially positioned as a VIP facilitation tool for business-class and frequent-flyer elites, officials now confirm that expansion to arrivals and other terminals is planned for Q4 2026. That could eventually give millions of transit passengers a completely document-free journey through the world’s busiest international hub. For employers the upside is immediate: faster immigration translates into shorter minimum-connect times, allowing tighter itineraries and reducing the cost of enforced layovers. Relocation specialists also see a brand value angle—clients arriving on scouting visits experience a friction-free first impression of the UAE’s digital-government ambitions. The corridor is part of the broader ‘Travel Without Borders’ strategy that aims to automate every touch-point in the airport journey. Parallel pilots—such as self-drive buggy transfers that recognise travellers by face and deliver them to remote stands—are already under way. Importantly, GDRFA stresses that any suspect or watch-listed passenger is automatically diverted for manual screening, maintaining security integrity. Companies that rely on high-frequency shuttle runs through Dubai should encourage senior travellers to enrol in the system at next departure; once registered, subsequent trips require nothing more than a glance at the camera—no queues, no stamps, no hassle.
