FAA Updates Charts After Renaming Palm Beach International to Pres. Donald J. Trump International Airport
The Federal Aviation Administration issued a general statement on 9 July confirming it has completed all aeronautical-data updates necessary to reflect the renaming of Palm Beach International Airport (PBI) to President Donald J. Trump International Airport (DJT). While the FAA does not approve name changes—those are the purview of local airport authorities—it is responsible for ensuring that flight-management databases, approach plates, and sectional charts carry the correct facility name. Operationally, the airport’s IATA code (PBI) and ICAO identifier (KPBI) remain unchanged until 18 August, when the International Air Transport Association will publish updated airline reservation codes. Between now and then, passengers may encounter mixed branding on boarding passes, signage, and baggage tags. Carriers have been told to notify frequent-flyer members that ticket reissues are not required; global-distribution systems will automatically map PBI to DJT once IATA releases the new code. For mobility managers booking corporate travel, the interim period calls for extra vigilance: duty-of-care tracking tools that rely on airport-name strings, rather than three-letter codes, could momentarily fail to recognise the destination. Travel-risk teams should validate that emergency-alert software reflects the new nomenclature to avoid false-negative location pings during hurricane season. Customs and Border Protection expects no impact on Global Entry kiosks or ESTA databases, which key off the ICAO identifier. However, TSA says signage updates in security halls may take several weeks; travellers with tight connections should follow electronic gate displays rather than way-finding placards until the switchover is complete. The airport authority is installing dual-language digital signs to mitigate confusion among international passengers transiting through the busy Caribbean charter corridor. The rebranding—approved by Palm Beach County commissioners in May—aims to capitalise on the former president’s hometown cachet and projected surge in 2026 election-cycle travel. Critics argue the move politicises publicly funded infrastructure; supporters claim it will raise the airport’s profile and attract new international service, including mooted flights to Brazil and Israel.
